What are Aminos?
A clinically formulated blend of all 9 essential amino acids (EAAs) required for whole body protein synthesis. Your body can’t make essential amino acids on its own; they must come from food or supplementation.
When Aminos makes sense
Protein gaps — When meals don’t consistently provide enough complete protein.
Busy schedules — A lighter, more convenient option than shakes when meals are inconsistent.
Dieting / GLP-1 / low appetite — Feel fuller and support lean mass while eating less.
Adults 40+ — Daily muscle maintenance and strength.
Perimenopause / Menopause — Support healthy aging, lean mass, and bone health.
Vegans / Vegetarians — Cover essential amino acids gaps on a plant-based diet.
Training support — Steady, caffeine-free energy, lean muscle, and enhanced recovery.
Mental clarity — A stimulant-free option for more focused days.
Better Aminos
Kion Aminos is a complete EAA blend (all 9 essential amino acids) with every ingredient listed, down to the milligram—so there’s no guessing what you’re actually taking. The formula is 40% leucine to support a strong muscle-building signal, which can be especially relevant when results feel harder to come by with age, physical activity, or dieting. And to ensure the highest quality and efficacy in every bottle, every batch is third-party tested for purity and potency.

The FDA has classified EAA supplements as Generally Regarded as Safe (GRAS). The Food and Nutrition Board of The National Academy of Science published an extensive report which found no risk or negative side effects from EAA consumption, including determining that there was no apparent upper limit of safe consumption. However, we recommend taking no more than 15g at a time and spacing doses at least 3 hours apart. This is because taking more than 15g per serving, or more frequently than 3 hours apart does not offer any additional benefit in terms of muscle protein synthesis.
Reviews
Questions? We have answers.
Can I take Kion Aminos daily even if I don’t work out?
Yes, Aminos is a daily supplement of all 9 essential amino acids (EAAs) your body needs for optimal whole body protein synthesis. Exercise can amplify results, but it isn’t required.
Is this useful during weight loss, calorie restriction, or on GLP-1 medications?
Yes, any time you cut calories, your body’s need for essential amino acids (EAAs) increases. And when calories are low, a 40% leucine EAA profile has been shown to be more effective at stimulating muscle protein synthesis. Because Aminos contains all 9 EAAs and a fraction of the calories as protein, it is one of the best ways to support weight loss.
How much protein is Aminos equal to?
While Aminos isn’t protein, it is the essential amino acids your body uses to build and repair protein. So, while you should still aim to meet your daily protein needs, research has found that just 3g of EAAs can stimulate muscle protein synthesis similarly to (and sometimes more effectively than) ~20 g of whey protein.
What’s the difference between Aminos and protein powder?
Protein powders are intact proteins that your body has to digest and break down into individual amino components to use. Aminos are the specific essential amino acids from protein your body needs for whole body protein synthesis, already broken down. That means they don’t require digestion, are more concentrated, and just the part of protein your body needs for protein synthesis. (Most protein powders are only about ~45% of this active component.) Aminos is also formulated with a clinically informed EAA profile, including a 40% leucine ratio to deliver a stronger protein synthesis signal than most protein powders.
Are Aminos a meal replacement or a replacement for protein foods?
Aminos aren’t a complete meal. Think of Aminos as a targeted way to supplement essential amino acids your body gets from protein. They are helpful between meals, when appetite is low, when protein feels too heavy, or to supplement a low-protein or low-EAA meal.
How does this help adults over 40 or 50 maintain muscle?
Aminos help overcome anabolic resistance that makes it difficult to build and maintain muscle as we age, as it takes a stronger “signal” and more consistent intake of essential amino acids to keep whole-body protein synthesis turned on. Leucine is the key amino acid signal for this protein synthesis, which is why Aminos is enriched with 40% leucine.
Can this help if I can’t tolerate protein shakes or feel bloated from them?
Many people find Aminos easier to tolerate than heavy shakes because they don’t require any digestion. If your stomach is sensitive, Capsules may be a better option, or diluting your Aminos Powder may help.
Is this helpful for vegetarians or plant-based diets?
Yes, Aminos are especially helpful for plant-based dieters as it can be harder to get a full dose of all 9 essential amino acids in the right proportions at every meal. Aminos give plant-based dieters a concentrated dose of EAAs, in free-form form, with 40% leucine for a stronger protein synthesis signal. Aminos can be taken on their own or with low- or no-protein plant-based meals to ensure your body gets the EAAs it needs for whole-body protein synthesis.
When should I take EAAs (morning, between meals, pre/post-workout)?
Anytime works. Many people take Aminos in the morning, between meals, or around workouts. Consistency matters more than perfect timing.
How do I mix Kion Aminos so it tastes better and doesn’t clump?
Use cold water and shake vigorously (or use a frother). Many people prefer it extra cold with ice. If a flavor is strong for you, dilute with more water.
